The Treatment
What nails actually is: and who it's for.
What it is
We offer three tiers of nail treatment. Classic polish manicures and pedicures for a groomed, natural finish. Gel and Shellac for a high-shine colour that lasts two to three weeks without chipping. Builder gel for clients who need strength: a flexible overlay applied over the natural nail to protect it while it grows, either natural or with colour on top.
Who it's for
Clients across Banstead, Cheam, Epsom, Ewell and Sutton who want their nails to look done rather than obvious: professionals who need a neutral finish for work, brides and wedding parties, nail biters trying to break the habit, and anyone whose natural nails split, peel or never seem to get past the fingertip.
When it's right
Gel and Shellac need infilling or replacing every two to three weeks. Builder gel typically holds three to four weeks. Pedicures last considerably longer, often four to six weeks, because toenails grow more slowly and are protected by shoes.
Why professional matters
Longevity in nails is almost entirely down to preparation and application, not the brand of gel. Correct cuticle work, correct dehydration of the nail plate, thin even layers and a properly capped free edge are what stop lifting at day five. Safe removal matters just as much: scraped, over-filed nails are why so many people think gel ruins their nails.
The Cost of Leaving It
What happens when it's left, or done badly.
Gel that lifts within a week is not bad luck, it is rushed prep. Once water gets underneath a lifted edge you have a hygiene problem as well as a cosmetic one.
Aggressive electric filing and picked-off gel take layers of the natural nail with them, which is exactly why nails end up thin, bendy and permanently sore.
Weak, peeling nails never get long enough to look groomed, so people keep them short and hide their hands in photographs.
Cheap, high-volume nail bars work at speed. Speed is the enemy of cuticle work, and poor cuticle work is the most common cause of both lifting and infection.
The Precious Moments Method
How we deliver nails, step by step.
-
Step 1
Consultation and shape
We look at nail condition, length and lifestyle, then agree shape and finish. Someone who works with their hands needs a different length and shape to someone who does not.
-
Step 2
Preparation
Cuticle work, gentle surface refinement and dehydration of the nail plate. This step is where retention is won or lost, so we do not rush it.
-
Step 3
Application
Thin, even layers cured properly between coats, with the free edge capped so the finish does not chip back from the tip.
-
Step 4
Finish and cuticle oil
High-shine top coat, then cuticle oil and hand or foot massage to leave the surrounding skin as good as the nails.
-
Step 5
Safe removal next time
We soak off rather than scrape or over-file, so the natural nail underneath stays intact appointment after appointment.
What You Actually Get
Specific, measurable benefits.
Two to three weeks of chip-free colour
Gel and Shellac keep a high-shine finish through washing up, gym sessions and typing.
Strength without acrylic
Builder gel adds protective structure over the natural nail, ideal for nail biters and for growing out weak, splitting nails.
Nails left healthy
Careful prep and soak-off removal means the natural nail is not thinned or damaged over time.
Neutral or bold, done well
From a bare buffed finish and clean French to deeper seasonal shades, chosen from our polish wall.
Pedicures that last
Toenail work typically holds four to six weeks, which makes pedicures one of the best-value treatments on the menu.
A proper nail area
Dedicated manicure stations and pedicure chairs in the clinic, not a corner of a treatment room.

The Detail
Everything you'd want to know before booking.
Gel versus Shellac versus builder gel
Shellac is a specific brand of soak-off gel polish. It is thin, glossy and easy to remove, and it is ideal for natural nails in reasonable condition. Gel polish more broadly covers the same category of soak-off colour. Builder gel is thicker and structural: it is applied as an overlay over the natural nail, cured in layers and shaped, so it adds genuine strength and can extend the nail slightly beyond the fingertip. If your nails are strong and you want colour, choose gel or Shellac. If your nails bend, split or break before they grow, choose builder gel.
Why retention fails
Gel lifts for four common reasons: oil or moisture left on the nail plate at application, cuticle skin not properly pushed back so product sits on skin rather than nail, layers applied too thickly to cure fully, and an uncapped free edge. All four are preparation and application faults, not client faults. Aftercare matters too: cuticle oil daily keeps the surrounding skin flexible, and gloves for cleaning and gardening prevent chemical and physical damage.
Nail health and safe removal
The natural nail is layered keratin, and every one of those layers matters. Picking gel off takes the top layers with it, which is why nails feel thin and tender afterwards. We soak off with the correct solvent and gentle timing rather than scraping, and we assess the natural nail at every appointment. If we can see damage, thinning or any sign of infection, we will say so and recommend a break or a treatment plan rather than simply applying more product over the top.
Pedicures and foot care
A pedicure is more than colour. Nails are cut and shaped correctly to reduce the risk of ingrown toenails, cuticles are tidied, hard skin is reduced on the heels and balls of the feet, and the foot is massaged. Because toenails grow at roughly half the rate of fingernails and spend most of their life in shoes, gel pedicures routinely last four to six weeks, which makes them extremely good value per week worn.
Booking around events
For a wedding, book your trial at least four weeks out and your final appointment two to four days before, not the day before, so there is time to fix anything you decide you do not like. For holidays, a gel pedicure the week before travel will comfortably see you through a fortnight of pools and sand. Seasonal manicure and pedicure packages appear on the Treatwell menu through the year.
How we plan nails at Precious Moments.
A good result is not created by the treatment name alone. It is created by the consultation, the suitability check, the order of treatments, the settings used, the aftercare followed and the consistency of the course. That is why every nails client starts with a conversation about medical history, previous treatments, medication, skin behaviour, lifestyle, upcoming events and the result they actually want. If another treatment would deliver the outcome more safely or more directly, we say so before you spend money.
The clinic works from 6 Eastgate in Banstead, so repeated appointments are realistic for clients travelling from Cheam, Epsom, Ewell, Sutton, Coulsdon, Kingswood, Chipstead and Tattenham. That matters because most meaningful aesthetic results are not single-visit miracles. They come from a correct sequence: the first appointment establishes the baseline, the middle appointments build the result, and the review appointment decides whether maintenance, a top-up or a different layer of treatment is the sensible next step.
Pricing is kept live on Treatwell so clients are not reading old figures on the website. Course value is built into the clinic model: buy a course of six and receive the seventh treatment free; buy eight and receive ten. Repeat-course Early Bird offers and the loyalty stamp scheme can reduce the cost further for clients who already know they want an ongoing skin, laser or body plan. A deposit is required to secure booking, and appointments can be rescheduled without charge outside the 48-hour window.
Safety is documented rather than assumed. Precious Moments is fully insured, council-registered for skin-piercing and semi-permanent make-up procedures, and uses licensed clinical-waste disposal for sharps and treatment waste. Practitioners hold NVQ Level 2 and Level 3 beauty qualifications, with additional advanced training across laser, skin needling, radio frequency, injectables, oncology massage and Dermalux LED protocols. That combination gives each appointment a clear structure: assess, treat, record, advise and review.
Suitability before sales
If nails is not the right route for your skin, body or timetable, we will redirect the plan rather than forcing the booking.
Local course consistency
Regular attendance is easier from a Banstead clinic with clear opening hours, WhatsApp support and a small team who remember your treatment history.
Aftercare that protects results
You leave with practical instructions on heat, exercise, actives, SPF, makeup, swimming or massage restrictions where relevant: not vague advice.

Frequently Asked
Nails in Banstead, your questions, answered.
How much do nails cost in Banstead?
+
Gel, Shellac and builder gel treatments start from £15 and polish manicures and pedicures from £20. Seasonal manicure and pedicure packages start from £45. Full itemised prices are live on Treatwell.
How long do gel nails last?
+
Two to three weeks on fingernails with no chipping, and typically four to six weeks on toenails. Builder gel usually holds three to four weeks before infilling.
Does gel damage your natural nails?
+
Applied and removed properly, no. Damage comes from over-filing, scraping and picking product off. We soak off gently and assess the nail at every appointment.
What is builder gel and do I need it?
+
It is a thicker structural overlay applied over the natural nail. It suits nail biters and anyone whose nails split or bend before they grow. If your nails are already strong, standard gel is enough.
Can you remove gel applied somewhere else?
+
Yes. Book a removal along with your new set and we will soak off the existing product and assess the natural nail before applying anything new.
Do you do nail extensions?
+
Our focus is gel, Shellac and builder gel over the natural nail, which is kinder to nail health. Please ask at consultation about length and shape options.
How do I make my manicure last longer?
+
Cuticle oil daily, gloves for cleaning and gardening, and do not use your nails as tools. Book infills before lifting starts rather than after.
Can I bring my own polish colour?
+
Our polish wall covers a wide range of shades and we will happily help you match to an outfit. Speak to us in advance if you have something very specific in mind.
Is a pedicure suitable if I have hard skin or ingrown toenails?
+
Hard skin reduction is part of a pedicure. For a painful or infected ingrown toenail, please see a podiatrist or GP first: that is outside our scope.
What is your cancellation policy?
+
A deposit is required to book. Cancellations outside 48 hours can be rescheduled free of charge.
